It's always special to serve Yemeni coffee. After being brought from Ethiopia by Yemeni monks, Yemen is where coffee was first cultivated as a commercial crop. Many Yemeni farmers have a family legacy producing coffee going back multiple generations, as far as 400-500 years. Today, high-quality coffees like Bait Alal coffee represent hope and income to an isolated country facing civil war, medical crises, and limited opportunities to engage with the global economy.
Yemeni coffee is grown in the high mountains at exceptional elevations - 2300 meters above sea level (more than 7500 feet), this combined with the dry countryside, unique micro-climates, and traditional processing methods to create coffees with complex flavors of chocolate, mango, and tropical fruit with a candied sweetness.
